College Basketball Roundup: Queens advances in ASUN tourney

DELAND, Fla.  — AJ McKee scored 23 points to lead Queens University to a 69-63 victory over Florida Gulf Coast on Monday night in the first round of the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament.

McKee added six rebounds and three steals for the eighth-seeded Royals (14-18). Chris Ashby scored 15 on 5-for-9 shooting from 3-point range. Deyton Albury had nine points.

Isaiah Thompson led the way for the seventh-seeded Eagles (14-18) with 31 points and three steals. Cyrus Largie totaled 11 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Dallion Johnson scored nine.

The Royals will play No. 2 seed Stetson in Tuesday’s second round.

Morgan State 88, NCCU 79

BALTIMORE  — Will Thomas scored 30 points to lead Morgan State past North Carolina Central 88-79 on Monday night.

Thomas also grabbed six rebounds for the Bears (10-19, 6-7 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference). Ahmarie Simpkins scored 20 points and added eight rebounds. Kameron Hobbs scored 16 on 6-for-13 shooting.

Fred Cleveland Jr. led the way for the Eagles (16-12, 8-5) with 27 points, six assists and two steals. Keishon Porter added 11 points and Po’Boigh King scored 10.

Duke 79, NC State 64

RALEIGH — Jeremy Roach had 21 points and freshman Jared McCain scored 14 of his 16 after halftime to help No. 9 Duke pull away and beat North Carolina State 79-64. McCain shot 5 of 7 after the break for the Blue Devils. Two of his 3-pointers came during a blistering run of eight straight made shots. That turned a one-point deficit into a 64-52 lead on Roach’s layup at the 7:46 mark. Big man DJ Burns Jr. had a season-high 27 points for N.C. State, which has lost three straight.
