Wiley Nickel wins 13th Congressional District

RALEIGH — Democrat Wiley Nickel has won North Carolina’s 13th Congressional District in one of the most watched races in the state this cycle.

Nickel defeated first-time candidate Republican Bo Hines with 51.32% of the vote.

An attorney by trade, Nickel has represented District 16 in Wake County in the state Senate after first being elected in 2018.

Democratic Campaign Committee chair Sean Patrick Maloney congratulated Nickel on the win.

“As a father, husband, criminal defense attorney, and state senator, Wiley Nickel committed his life to public service and delivering for his neighbors in North Carolina. Now he’ll be a champion for North Carolina families as their representative in Congress,” said Maloney. “The DCCC is proud to have backed Wiley and extend a warm congratulations to Representative-elect Wiley Nickel on his victory.”

Born in Charlotte, the 27-year-old Hines had been endorsed by former President Donald Trump. This was his first run for elected office.
