RALEIGH — Governor-elect Josh Stein, a Democrat, has tapped multiple Republicans as part of his transition team.

Outgoing N.C. State Superintendent Catherine Truitt is among those helping Stein sort out personnel for the Department of Commerce. Truitt was defeated in the Republican primary by Republican Michele Morrow, who lost to Democrat Maurice Green in the general election.

Former state House Rep. Chuck McGrady is also on Stein’s list. He will be helping Stein by interviewing and making recommendations for who should be secretary of the Department of Environmental Quality and other positions in that department. McGrady currently serves on the N.C. Board of Transportation. He was appointed in October 2020 and is an at-large member.

Current State Sen. Danny Britt (R-Robeson) was tapped to help with recommendations for the Department of Public Safety. Britt chairs the Appropriations on Justice and Public Safety Committee and is co-chair of the Joint Legislative Oversight Committee on Justice and Public Safety.

Former state Sen. Jeff Tarte will be helping with the transition in the area of information technology. Tarte served Mecklenburg County in the Senate from 2013 to 2019. He is also a former three-term mayor of the town of Cornelius and sits on the N.C. Information Technology Strategy Board.
