RALEIGH — Republican Addison McDowell is officially the new representative for North Carolina’s 6th Congressional District.
“I am honored the voters of the 6th District have selected me to serve as their next Congressman,” said McDowell in a statement. “This district is my home and it’s been so great to see old friends and family on the campaign trail; all the good folks who have invested in me over the years. Now I’m raising my children in this district. I’m going to Congress to fight for them and to fight for you!”
“I owe a big thank you to President Donald J. Trump,” McDowell said. “He believed in me because he knows securing our southern border is very important to me. We lost my little brother Luke to fentanyl likely smuggled across the Southern border and I want to shut down that pipeline so other families don’t suffer a similar tragedy.”
“My race was over pretty quick tonight and I know they are still counting votes in other states, but I feel great about President Trump’s chances for victory and it will be my privilege to stand shoulder to shoulder with him in Washington, DC fighting for the America First Agenda!” added McDowell.
The Sixth District seat is currently held by Democrat Kathy Manning, who opted not to run for reelection following redistricting as the seat shifted from safe Democratic to favoring Republicans.
McDowell, backed by former President Donald Trump, initially faced a runoff against former Congressman Mark Walker after the March 5 Primary. Not long after the primary, Walker ended up dropping out to join the Trump campaign to work with faith groups and minority communities and conceded the runoff race to McDowell.
McDowell, who hails from Davidson County, holds a bachelor’s degree from UNC Charlotte. He and his wife Rachel met at the university and have a young daughter.
