Congresswoman Virginia Foxx wins reelection to NC’s 5th District

RALEIGH — Incumbent Congresswoman Virginia Foxx has won another term representing North Carolina’s 5th Congressional District.

The Associated Press called the race for Foxx just before 9:30 p.m. Foxx had brought in over 61.75% of the vote to 38.25% for Democrat Chuck Hubbard with just under 52% of precincts reporting.

Foxx advanced to the general election after defeating challenger Ryan Mayberry by receiving nearly 69% of the vote.

Foxx was first elected in 2004 and took office in January 2005; she has served as the 5th District’s representative for 19 years.

Prior to being elected to Congress, she served as a member of the North Carolina State Senate (1994-2004) and is a former member of the Watauga County Board of Education (1976-1988).

Foxx holds a doctorate in education from UNC Greensboro.

The congresswoman and her husband, Tom, reside in Banner Elk in Watauga County.
