NC State Wolfpack quarterback Grayson McCall was stretchered off the field Saturday afternoon at Carter-Finley Stadium in the first quarter of the game after absorbing a huge hit.

It was McCall’s first drive since returning from an undisclosed injury sustained earlier in the season in Week 2 against Louisiana Tech.

McCall’s return to game action lasted all of 2:23 before being hit by three Wake Forest Demon Deacons defenders all converging at once as he attempted a run up the middle.

It appeared as if the fifth-year quarterback was unconscious almost immediately following the hit as both his helmet and the ball went flying and as he hit the ground, he was motionless.

The NC State staff didn’t even wait for play to finish, as the fumble had been recovered by the Demon Deacons who were attempting to take it down the field, and got to McCall quickly to try and help the injured quarterback.

After a while, the medics were able to get McCall on a stretcher and lifted up into a gator.

McCall was seen hugging his parents and waving to the crowd before he departed the field.

Freshman CJ Bailey will now be back under center for the Pack with McCall out.

More updates will be provided when available.
