RALEIGH — Nowell’s Clothing, a Raleigh institution, announced it will close its doors after 103 years. The family-owned and operated clothier offered high-fashion men’s clothing and attire for all occasions.
Since its establishment in 1921 by Arthur Nowell, the store has flourished under three generations, remaining a household name in Raleigh and around the state.
The family announced the upcoming closure Wednesday. A firm closing date was not announced but the company said Spring would be the store’s final season. “This decision has not been made lightly, and we want to take a moment to express our deep gratitude to each one of you who has been a part of our journey,” said the company through a joint statement from Schooner, Matt and LuBet Nowell. “Since our founding in 1921 by our Grandparents, Nowell’s Clothing has been dedicated to providing quality clothing and exceptional service to our loyal customers. Over the years, we have witnessed generations of families coming through our doors, and we’ve been honored to be a part of your lives, helping you celebrate special occasions, finding the perfect outfit, and simply being a trusted destination for all your clothing needs.”
