After beating the Monarchs 42-10 two seasons ago in Winston-Salem, Wake Forest makes a return trip to Norfolk to face Old Dominion. Three of the Deacons’ next four games are on the road after Wake opened its season with back-to-back wins at home. A win this week would make the Deacs 3-0 for the third straight year.

ODU is facing its second ACC team of the young season after losing its opener at Virginia Tech before returning home and beating Sun Belt foe Louisiana last week. The Monarchs haven’t been over .500 after their third game since 2017 when they opened the season with two straight wins before UNC handed them the first of six straight losses. Old Dominion is yet to force a turnover this season.

Players to Watch

Running back Tate Carney: After dressing for three games last season and in Wake’s opener, Carney finally got his first touches as a college player — and he made the most of it. The Davie County High graduate averaged 9 yards on 13 carries last week against Vanderbilt, totaling 117 yards with a touchdown.

Linebacker Jason Henderson: Henderson already has 27 tackles through two games after leading the country with 186 — including 10 tackles for loss — last season. The Monarchs will need him to help slow Wake’s 42nd-ranked rushing attack, which is averaging 193 yards per game so far.
