RALEIGH – At the N.C. Press Association’s annual convention on Feb. 26, the North State Journal staff took home 19 individual awards and won the top prize in the newspaper’s division.

For the third time in four years, NSJ won 1st place in general excellence, an award given based on each newspaper’s quality, apperance, and content. NSJ won the award against 23 other newspapers across North Carolina.

NSJ claimed nine 1st place awards, six 2nd place awards, and four 3rd place awards.

“These awards are a testament to the tireless work our staff puts in,” said editor in chief Matt Mercer. “I’m proud of all of our staff and the recognition from our peers show that North Carolina’s only statewide newspaper is a valued, trusted source to engage and inform readers across the state.”
