RALEIGH — Republican Brad Knott has won the NC 13th Congressional District seat over Democrat Frank Pierce.
While results are still unofficial, Knott has taken in over 59% of the vote at this time.
“Tonight is a great night for Conservatives looking for Conservative solutions to the difficult, serious problems the Biden-Harris Administration has placed on the American people. I’m honored the constituents of the 13th District have trusted me to be their Conservative fighter in Washington, DC,” said Knott in a statement. “Now that the election is behind us, we can focus on addressing serious problems facing our country with smart conservative solutions. Whether the open border, runaway spending, intrusive regulations from Washington, etc. – we need Conservatives to stand strong and fight for real solutions in Congress. I look forward to being just that.”
The seat is currently held by freshman Democrat Rep. Wiley Nickel, who announced he would not seek reelection following redistricting changes which gave the seat a Republican lean.
The March 5 Republican Primary had 14 candidates vying for the seat and ended in a runoff between Knott and Kelly Daughtry, who received more than a quarter of the votes while Knott came in second second with over 18%. Before the May runoff could happen, Daughtry bowed out of the race after former President Donald Trump gave his endorsement to Knott.
Knott resigned his post as a federal prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Eastern North Carolina to run for the seat. He had spent seven years in that role.
While earning his law degree from Wake Forest University, he clerked for Supreme Court Justice Paul Newby before heading to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Knott, who grew up in Raleigh, now lives in that city with his wife and two young daughters.
