App State was knocked out of the Sun Belt Tournament

ORANGEBURG — Brendan Medley-Bacon scored 16 points as North Carolina Central beat South Carolina State 71-64 on Thursday night.

Medley-Bacon also contributed seven rebounds and four blocks for the Eagles (17-11, 10-4 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference). Marque Maultsby added 15 points, and Justin Wright recorded 13. The Eagles picked up their seventh straight victory.

The Bulldogs (5-25, 2-12) were led in scoring by Lesown Hallums, who finished with 13 points and six rebounds. Rakeim Gary added 12 points and four assists for South Carolina State. Shaman Alston put up nine points.

Sun Belt Conference Tournament

South Alabama 68, Appalachian State 61

PENSACOLA, Fla. — Isaiah Moore had 20 points and South Alabama beat Appalachian State 68-61 on Thursday in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.

Moore added five rebounds and seven assists for the Jaguars (17-15). Owen White scored 14 points while going 5 of 9 (3 for 5 from distance). Kevin Samuel finished 12 points to help the Jaguars to their sixth straight victory.

The Mountaineers (16-16) were led in scoring by Terence Harcum, who finished with 17 points. CJ Huntley added 13 points for Appalachian State. In addition, Donovan Gregory finished with 12 points.

Regular season

UTSA 78, Charlotte 73

SAN ANTONIO — Japhet Medor’s 22 points helped UTSA defeat Charlotte 78-73 on Thursday night.

Medor also had five assists for the Roadrunners (10-21, 4-16 Conference USA). John Buggs III made 4 for 6 from beyond the arc to add 18 points. Jacob Germany was finished with 17 points.

The 49ers (18-12, 9-10) were led in scoring by Aly Khalifa, who finished with 27 points. Brice Williams added 20 points and 11 rebounds for Charlotte. Igor Milicic Jr. also had 11 points and two blocks.
