ACC Tournament seedings, matchups set

UNC's win against Duke helps the Tar Heels secure the No. 6 seed while allowing NC State to leapfrog the Blue Devils and avoid a first round game

North Carolina’s regular season-ending 91-73 rout of Duke on Saturday had several implications on the bracket for next week’s ACC men’s basketball tournament at Greensboro Coliseum.

Not only did it help the Tar Heels secure the No. 6 seed in the event, where they will begin play at 9 p.m. on Wednesday against the winner of a first-round matchup against either Wake Forest or Notre Dame, but the result also allowed NC State to leapfrog the Blue Devils for a first-round bye.

While the Wolfpack will be the No. 9 seed, matched against No. 8 Syracuse at noon on Wednesday, coach Mike Krzyzewki’s team will be relegated to a Tuesday’s opening round as the 10th seed and a date with No. 15 Boston College at 4:30 p.m.

The matchup between No. 11 Notre Dame and No. 14 Wake Forest is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

Seedings, pairings and game times are subject to all 15 teams participating, which is still up in the air because of Virginia Tech’s current COVID-19 pause.

Regular season champion Virginia, Florida State, Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech are the top four seeds for the tournament, which runs through the championship game on Saturday.
