NC 6th Congressional District race won by Democrat Kathy Manning

Kathy Manning won election to the U.S. House of Representatives

RALEIGH— The race for North Carolina’s 6th Congressional District between Republican Lee Haywood and Democratic candidate Kathy Manning has resulted in a win for Manning.

Haywood easily defeated his March primary opponent Laura Pichardo with an overwhelming 73% of the vote. The 59-year-old Haywood lives in Summerfield and owns a small business selling industrial supplies to government and commercial customers.  For the last past two and a half years he has been the NC Republican Party 6th District Chairman.

Manning, from Greensboro, faced four primary challengers and emerged with just over 48% of the vote. In 2016, Manning unsuccessfully ran for North Carolina’s 13th Congressional District against Rep. Ted Budd. Manning lost to Budd by a margin of 6%.

The N.C. State Board of Elections (NCSBE) will continue to accept absentee ballots through Nov. 12.  Due to the extended deadline for those ballots, results reported on election night may change.
