RALEIGH — A grand jury has indicted former General Assembly House Rep. Cecil Brockman related to his arrest last fall on sex crime charges.

Court records show the indictment was issued March 2 for Brockman on charges of felony statutory sex offenses with a child, felony indecent liberties with a child and felony first-degree sexual exploitation with a minor.

The indictment names the victim as a “15-year-old juvenile.”

Brockman’s case is being handled in Guilford County Superior Court.

Brockman’s original charges included two counts of taking indecent liberties with a child and two counts of statutory rape/sex offense of a 13- to 15-year-old by a defendant at least six years older than the victim.

The former Guilford statehouse lawmaker resigned on Halloween last year as House Speaker Destin Hall (R-Granite Falls) was empaneling a group of legislators to look at how to handle the case.

Brockman, who maintains he is innocent, made bail in November after his $1.05 million bond was reduced to a $250,000 secured bond.

Guilford County Democrats replaced Brockman with High Point City Councilwoman Amanda Cook. She won the March 3 primary to seek election to the seat in November.
