RALEIGH — Kim Delaney, executive director of the nonprofit Tiny House Big Movement and 2026 candidate for a General Assembly House seat, died Jan. 26 at the age of 46.

Delaney, from Concord, was running as a Democratic primary challenger to Amber Baker for the House District 73 seat.

According to the SpotFund page set up to support the family, Delaney died surrounded by family and is survived by two children.

The SpotFund page says Delaney had “pre-existing medical conditions,” and due to that fact, she “was unable to obtain life insurance, and our family is coming together to ensure her children are supported and her life is honored.”

“All donations will go directly toward funeral expenses and to support Kim’s children during the days and weeks ahead,” according to the SpotFund page.

“We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Kim Delaney of Concord, a candidate for North Carolina House District 73, who passed away unexpectedly on January 26, 2026,” the North Carolina Democratic Party said in a statement.

“Kim was a devoted mother and leaves behind two children. Our thoughts are with them, as well as with Kim’s family and loved ones, during this incredibly difficult time. Kim was a kind, sincere, and caring person who believed in community and in showing up for others.”

In a post made by her official campaign Facebook page, Delaney announced Jan. 23 that she was suspending her campaign. The post alluded to a health issue.

“Due to unforeseen medical circumstances, Kim Delaney has made the difficult decision to temporarily suspend campaign activity at this time so she can focus fully on her health and recovery,” the campaign post said.

The post thanked supporters for their encouragement and said no additional details were being released out of respect for the family.
