RALEIGH — President-elect Donald Trump has tapped North Carolina Congressman Dan Bishop (R-08) to be deputy director for Budget at the Office of Management and Budget.

“I am pleased to nominate Congressman Dan Bishop from North Carolina as Deputy Director for Budget at the Office of Management and Budget (OMB),” Trump said in a press release that was also posted to Truth Social. “Dan has been a tireless fighter for our MAGA Movement in the House of Representatives on the Judiciary and Homeland Security Committees. Dan will implement my cost-cutting and deregulatory agenda across all Agencies, and root out the Weaponized Deep State.”

OMB serves the executive branch with a mission of assisting the president with “policy, budget, management, and regulatory objectives and to fulfill the agency’s statutory responsibilities.”

“Before Congress, Dan served in the North Carolina House, Senate and, as a County Commissioner, while racking up a 30-year career as an aggressive and successful business litigator in trial and appellate courts,” Trump wrote. “Dan earned his JD, with high honors, and a B.S. in Business Administration, with highest distinction, from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Congratulations Dan!”

Bishop will work alongside Russell Vought, who Trump picked as director of OMB on Nov. 22.

“I’m so honored to be nominated by President Trump to serve in the stellar OMB team led by @russvought,” Bishop said in a statement on X. “Much work to do to fight for and implement President Trump’s agenda. I’m ready to get down to it. Let’s go!”

Vought also responded on X to the announcement, writing, “Not having Dan Bishop in the fight was too much to contemplate! Thankful that President Trump chose him to be OMB Deputy! Look out Deep State.”

Trump announced earlier this week that Mark Paoletta will return as general counsel for OMB.

“President Trump could not have made a better selection for OMB Deputy Director! Dan is smart, principled, and unrelenting,” Paoletta said in a post on X. “Looking forward to working with him to take on the Deep State and implement President Trump’s agenda. Let’s go!”

Prior to running for Congress, Bishop served in the North Carolina House of Representatives from January 2015 to January 2017 representing the 104th District of Mecklenburg County. He then was elected to serve in state Senate District 39 for two terms, from January 2017 through mid-September 2019.

Bishop won a special congressional election to the U.S. House of Representatives, beating Democrat Dan McCready with 50.7% of the vote. Trump had endorsed Bishop in that race as well as Bishop’s bid for North Carolina attorney general this election cycle.

Bishop ran on a platform of law and order but lost to congressional colleague Rep. Jeff Jackson (D-NC-14) by less than 3% of the vote.
