Democrat Alma Adams retains NC 12th Congressional District seat

RALEIGH — Incumbent Congresswoman Alma Adams has been reelected as North Carolina’s 12th Congressional District representative over Republican challenger Addul Ali, a Charlotte area businessman, podcaster and past chair of the Cabarrus GOP.

Results have yet to be finalized but Adams, now in her fourth term, has so far received over 69% of the vote.

Adams was first elected to Congress in a special election to fill the vacated seat of Democratic Rep. Melvin Watt. She was sworn to finish Watt’s term in on Nov. 12, 2014, and has been reelected every cycle since by wide margins.

Prior to serving in Congress, Adams was a member of the North Carolina House serving Guilford County (1994-2014). She also served as a member of the Greensboro City Council (1987-1994), and was a member of the Greensboro School Board (1984-1986).

the 78-year -old Adams holds multiple degrees; a Bachelor’s from North Carolina A&T University, a Master’s from North Carolina A&T University, and a Ph.D from The Ohio State University.
