Congressman Greg Murphy wins reelection to NC’s 3rd District

RALEIGH — Congressman Greg Murphy has been reelected to a fourth term representing North Carolina’s 3rd Congressional District.

Although the results of the general election are not final, The Associated Press called the race for Murphy, who overwhelmingly beat his opponent, Libertarian Gheorghe Cormos, with more than 75% of the vote with just 25% of the vote tallies received.

Murphy is a medical doctor with a private practice and former House member in the North Carolina General Assembly.

In 2022, Murphy defeated Democratic challenger Barbara Gaskins to retain his seat.

In 2019, Murphy won a special election to fill the remainder of the late Walter Jones’ term before going on to win the seat in the 2020 election cycle.

Murphy was the recipient of a vice presidential appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy. He obtained a full scholarship to Davidson College, where he graduated with honors in 1985. Murphy went on to graduate with honors from UNC Chapel Hill School of Medicine.

Earlier this year, Murphy successfully underwent a procedure to remove a tumor near the base of his skull.

Murphy and his wife, Wendy, have three children and reside in Greenville.
