RALEIGH — The National Republican Congressional Committee has announced a $1.45 hybrid ad buy reservation for North Carolina 1st Congressional District candidate Laurie Buckhout, a retired Army colonel.
Buckhout is challenging the incumbent for that seat, Democratic Congressman Don Davis, a freshman congressman first elected in 2022.
According to the National Republican Congressional Committee’s (RNCC) press release, $750,000 of the total $1.45 million ad buy is a “direct investment from the NRCC to extend the Buckhout campaign’s advertising and build her more name ID.”
“With this historic investment, the NRCC will ensure more North Carolinians can hear Laurie’s inspiring life story: serving our country in combat and building her own business from the ground up,” NRCC Spokeswoman Delanie Bomar said in the press release.
In June, NRCC announced $45.7 million in ad reservations that included $1.35 million in the Raleigh Designated Market area and $1.054 million in the Greenville area.
The Democrats House Majority PAC has spent more than $1.166 million in opposing Buckhout, according to election spending watchdog Open Secrets. The PAC has numerous attack ads against Republican congressional candidates on its website, including Buckhout.
Based on second-quarter Federal Elections Commission filings, Davis’ campaign has reported $3.17 million in fundraising with just over $2.61 million left in spending power.
Buckhout has raised $2.61 million with around $600,000 left.
Cook Political report has designated the race as a “toss up.”
