WINSTON-SALEM — Kevin Miller scored 18 points, Hunter Sallis added 17 and Wake Forest routed Pittsburgh 91-58 on Tuesday night, snapping the Panther’s five-game winning streak.
Wake Forest (17-9, 9-6 ACC), which ended a two-game skid that included a 49-47 loss against then-No. 21 Virginia on Saturday, shot 61% (31 of 51) overall, made half of its 20 shots from distance and 19 of 20 free throws against Pitt. Sallis hit three 3s and Parker Friedrichsen scored all nine of his points from long range.
Cameron Hildreth chipped in with 13 points for the Demon Deacons. Efton Reid III added 12 points and Andrew Carr scored 10.
Ishmael Leggett made three 3-pointers and scored 15 points to lead Pitt (17-9, 8-7), which shot 18 of 62 (29%) from the field. Jaland Lowe added 12 points. Blake Hinson, who scored a career-high 41 points against Louisville on Saturday, scored 10 points on 3-of-10 shooting.
Miller and Sallis each scored 10 points to help Wake Forest build a 45-33 lead at the break. Carr added eight points as the Demon Deacons shot 58% (14 of 24) and made seven 3-pointers. Lowe scored 10 first-half points and Leggett had eight for Pitt.
Wake Forest opened the second half on a 20-4 run for a 65-37 lead with 13:15 remaining. The Demon Deacons hit four 3s and had a pair of dunks during the stretch.
Wake Forest hosts eighth-ranked Duke on Saturday.
Davidson 68, Fordham 53
DAVIDSON — Connor Kochera had 21 points in Davidson’s 68-53 victory against Fordham on Tuesday night.
Kochera added five rebounds for the Wildcats (15-11, 5-8 Atlantic 10 Conference). Reed Bailey scored 19 points and added five rebounds. Angelo Brizzi had 14 points.
Elijah Gray finished with nine points for the Rams (10-16, 4-9). Will Richardson added nine points and two blocks for Fordham. Abdou Tsimbila also put up seven points and six rebounds.
Bailey scored 12 points in the first half and Davidson went into the break trailing 24-23. Davidson used a 10-0 run in the second half to build a 14-point lead at 59-45 with 5:35 remaining before finishing off the win.
Davidson’s next game is Saturday at Richmond.
Syracuse 87, NC State 83
RALEIGH — Chris Bell scored all 26 of his points in the first half, backup Quadir Copeland added a career-high 25 points and Syracuse spoiled NC State’s second-half rally, beating the Wolfpack 87-83 in a frantic finish Tuesday night.
Copeland broke an 83-all tie with 20 seconds left on two foul shots after getting fouled by DJ Horne. Out of a timeout, Horne failed to draw a foul call on Copeland with a leaning and flailing shot attempt.
Judah Mintz secured the rebound for Syracuse. Casey Morsell fouled him and Mintz sank two foul shots with five seconds to go to seal the win for the Orange (17-10, 8-8).
Syracuse led 55-40 at halftime with the help of Bell, who shot 8 for 9 from 3-point range while the Orange made 61.3% of their shots. NC State staged a gradual rally and took its first lead of the second half when reserve Ben Middlebrooks made a pair for an 82-81 lead with 3:21 remaining.
Horne scored 32 points, two points short of his career high, and DJ Burns Jr. and Middlebrooks each scored 12 for NC State (16-10, 8-7). Middlebrooks also grabbed 10 rebounds, with six on the offensive end.
The Wolfpack made 24 of 29 foul shots.
Both teams play Saturday as Syracuse hosts Notre Dame and the Wolfpack welcome Boston College.
