STATESBORO, Ga. — Terence Harcum scored a season-high 26 points and Appalachian State beat Georgia Southern 85-84 in overtime on Saturday.
Harcum was 10 of 17 shooting (5 for 8 from 3-point range) for the Mountaineers (19-4, 10-1 Sun Belt Conference). Justin Abson scored 20 points and added eight rebounds and four blocks. Donovan Gregory finished with 11 points. It was the eighth straight victory for the Mountaineers.
Gregory’s runner with less than 10 seconds left in overtime gave the Mountaineers their 85-84 lead and Abson preserved the win with a blocked shot at the other end.
The Eagles (5-18, 5-6) were led by Tyren Moore, who posted 24 points and four assists. Avantae Parker added 19 points, nine rebounds and four steals for Georgia Southern. In addition, Eugene Brown III had 18 points and two blocks.
UNC Wilmington 77, Campbell 74
WILMINGTON — Donovan Newby had 22 points off the bench and KJ Jenkins scored 20 to lead UNC Wilmington past Campbell 77-74 on Saturday night.
Newby shot 7 for 15, including 6 for 14 from beyond the arc, for the Seahawks (16-6, 7-3 Coastal Athletic Association). Jenkins made 5 of 15 from distance. Trazarien White had 10 points.
Anthony Dell’Orso led the way for the Fighting Camels (11-12, 5-5) with 23 points and six rebounds. Elijah Walsh added 18 points. Jasin Sinani totaled 14 points and five assists.
Elon 69, N.C. A&T 65
GREENSBORO — Zac Ervin’s 12 points off of the bench led Elon to a 69-65 victory against N.C. A&T on Saturday night.
Ervin shot 4 for 4 from beyond the arc for the Phoenix (10-13, 3-7 Coastal Athletic Association). Max Mackinnon and Sam Sherry both had 10 points.
Jalal McKie finished with 23 points for the Aggies (7-16, 5-5). Camian Shell added 22 points and seven assists for N.C. A&T. In addition, Nikolaos Chitikoudis finished with six points and nine rebounds.
Sherry put up 10 points in the first half for Elon, who led 42-26 at halftime. Elon used an 8-0 run in the second half to build a 19-point lead at 50-31 with 16:53 left in the half before finishing off the win.
Wake Forest 99, Syracuse 70
WINSTON-SALEM — Hunter Sallis scored 24 points, Kevin Miller added 21 and Cameron Hildreth had a double-double to help hot-shooting Wake Forest beat Syracuse 99-70 Saturday night.
Hildreth finished with 13 points and a career-high 12 rebounds. Andrew Carr scored 16 points for Wake Forest (14-7, 6-4 ACC).
Sallis made 7 of 9 from the field, 4 of 5 from 3-point range and 6 of 8 from the free-throw line. Miller was 8-of-11 shooting for the Demon Deacons, who shot a season-high 66% (35 of 53) and hit 12 of 19 (63%) from behind the arc.
JJ Starling scored 12 of his 15 points in the second half and Judah Mintz finished with 13 points and six assists for Syracuse (14-8, 5-6). Quadir Copeland added 11 points and Justin Taylor scored 10.
Sallis hit a 3-pointer with 7:46 left in the first half to spark a 10-0 run that made it 30-15 when he capped the spurt with two free throws about three minutes later and Wake Forest led by double figures the rest of the way.
The Demon Deacons, who eliminated Syracuse from the 2023 ACC Tournament, have won back-to-back games against the Orange to improve to 4-11 in the all-time series.
Wake Forest hits the road to play Tuesday at Georgia Tech.
NC State 82, Georgia Tech 76
RALEIGH — DJ Horne scored 26 points, Jayden Taylor added 21 and NC State pulled away early in the second half to beat Georgia Tech 82-76 on Saturday night.
NC State (15-7, 7-4 ACC) trailed by one at the half but opened the second on a 27-11 run for a 62-48 lead with about nine minutes remaining. Horne scored nine points, and Casey Morsell and Taylor each chipped in with six points each during the stretch.
Miles Kelly’s 3-pointer pulled Georgia Tech to 76-70 with 45 seconds left. The Wolfpack sealed it at the free-throw line.
Taylor and Horne were a combined 14-of-35 shooting from the field and made seven of the Wolfpack’s nine baskets from long range. Morsell finished with 15 points and DJ Burns Jr. added eight points to go with 10 rebounds.
NC State made 21 of 27 (78%) free throws and committed just four turnovers. Georgia Tech was 17-of-25 shooting (68%) at the line and grabbed five more rebounds (47-42), but it gave up 18 points on 12 turnovers.
Kelly scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Georgia Tech (10-12, 3-8), which was coming off a 74-73 upset win against No. 3 UNC but has lost four of its last five games. Naithan George added 18 points and Kowacie Reeves Jr. had 12.
George scored 12 points and Kelly had nine as the Yellow Jackets built a 36-35 halftime lead. Horne scored 10 first-half points for the Wolfpack.
Georgia Tech hosts Wake Forest on Tuesday. NC State will look for its third straight victory when its hosts Pittsburgh on Wednesday.
UNC Asheville 82, Winthrop 78
ASHEVILLE — Drew Pember scored 36 points and his two free throws with 17 seconds left allowed UNC Asheville to hold off Winthrop 82-78 on Saturday.
Pember added 11 rebounds and seven assists for the Bulldogs (15-9, 7-2 Big South Conference). Nicholas McMullen added 11 points and six rebounds. Fletcher Abee finished with 11 points.
Kasen Harrison finished with 19 points and five assists for the Eagles (14-10, 5-4). Kelton Talford added 18 points and six rebounds for Winthrop. Nick Johnson also put up 11 points and three steals.
UNC Asheville hosts High Point on Wednesday.
Queens 85, Bellarmine 75
CHARLOTTE — AJ McKee scored 24 points as Queens beat Bellarmine 85-75 on Saturday night.
McKee was 6 of 11 shooting and went 11 for 13 from the line for the Royals (10-14, 4-5 Atlantic Sun Conference). Deyton Albury added 19 points and had six rebounds. Bryce Cash added 13 points.
The Knights (6-18, 2-7) were led by Bash Wieland, who posted 17 points, six rebounds and three steals. Garrett Tipton added 16 points and seven rebounds and Langdon Hatton had 15 points.
Queens takes on Lipscomb on the road on Thursday.
High Point 78, Presbyterian 68
HIGH POINT — Kezza Giffa scored 26 points as High Point beat Presbyterian 78-68 on Saturday night for its 12th straight win.
Giffa made 22 of 24 from the free-throw line for the Panthers (20-4, 9-0 Big South Conference). Duke Miles scored 18 points, and Titas Sargiunas finished with 13 points.
The Blue Hose (10-14, 2-7) were led by Marquis Barnett, who recorded 23 points, six rebounds and three blocks. Crosby James added 11 points for Presbyterian.
North Carolina Central 77, Coppin State 46
DURHAM — Fred Cleveland Jr. scored 19 points as North Carolina Central beat Coppin State 77-46 on Saturday night.
Cleveland also contributed five rebounds and seven assists for the Eagles (13-8, 5-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference). Keishon Porter scored 17 points, going 7 of 8 (2 for 3 from 3-point range). Josh Smith finished with 10 points.
The Eagles (2-18, 1-5) were led in scoring by Ryan Archey, who finished with 19 points. Greg Spurlock added nine points for Coppin State. Camaren Sparrrow also put up seven points.
Both teams next play Monday. North Carolina Central hosts Morgan State and Coppin Stateplays South Carolina State on the road.
Wofford 88, Western Carolina 86 (OT)
SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Corey Tripp scored seven of his team-high 27 points in overtime to help Wofford hold off Western Carolina 88-86 on Saturday night.
Tripp had six rebounds for the Terriers (13-10, 6-4 Southern Conference). Jackson Sivills added 13 points and six rebounds. Kyler Filewich finished with nine points.
Vonterius Woolbright finished with 28 points, 10 rebounds and four assists for the Catamounts (16-7, 5-5). Western Carolina also got 23 points from DJ Campbell. Russell Jones also had 17 points.
Western Carolina hosts The Citadel on Wednesday.
