RALEIGH — DJ Horne scored 22 points making six 3-pointers and DJ Burns Jr. and Dennis Parker Jr. each recorded double-doubles and NC State beat UT Martin 81-67 in the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
Parker scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and Burns finished with 10 points, 12 rebounds, five blocks and four assists with just a single turnover and two fouls. Jayden Taylor added 13 points for NC State (7-2), which has won all five games at home this season.
Jacob Crews and Jordan Sears each scored 20 points for the Skyhawks and KK Curry scored 14.
The Wolfpack led 46-35 at halftime before UT Martin got within 51-46 with two foul shots by David Kamwanga with 14:33 remaining, but they never got closer. Ben Middlebrooks made two foul shots five minutes later to extend the Wolfpack’s lead to 63-52. Taylor followed with a layup after Sears’ turnover and NC State led by double digits the rest of the way. Parker sank a 3 and followed with a jumper to make it 76-54 with 5:42 remaining.
Crews’ jumper with 10:49 before halftime gave UT Martin its last lead at 22-21. MJ Rice put the Wolfpack up by two with a 3 nine seconds later, and the basket was part of a 10-0 run in which the Skyhawks didn’t score for more than four minutes.
NC State will host 12th-ranked Tennessee on Saturday.
North Carolina Central 67, North Carolina A&T 62
GREENSBORO — Ja’Darius Harris scored 18 points as North Carolina Central beat N.C. A&T 67-62 on Tuesday night.
Harris added six rebounds and three steals for the Eagles (5-7). Emmanuel Izunabor scored 14 points with eight rebounds and three blocks. Fred Cleveland Jr. finished with 13 points with adding five rebounds and 10 assists.
The Aggies (0-9) were led by Landon Glasper, who recorded 12 points, seven rebounds and two steals. N.C. A&T also got 10 points and six rebounds from Nikolaos Chitikoudis. Uchenna Kellman-Nicholes also had eight points. The loss was the Aggies’ ninth in a row.
Campbell 88, Pfeiffer 59
BUIES CREEK — Anthony Dell’Orso scored 13 points as Campbell beat Pfeiffer 88-59 on Tuesday night.
Dell’Orso added six rebounds and three steals for the Fighting Camels (4-6). Laurynas Vaistaras had 13 points and Gediminas Mokseckas finished with 12 points.
Alex Cunningham led the Falcons in scoring, finishing with 13 points. Rashamel Butler added 12 points and four assists for Pfeiffer. In addition, Ty Black finished with nine points.
