All six N.C. teams in action won on Sunday

NASSAU, Bahamas — Mikeal Brown-Jones scored 15 points to lead the UNC Greensboro Spartans and Donovan Atwell secured the victory with a free throw with three seconds left as the Spartans edged the UIC Flames 58-57 on Sunday night in the championship game of the Nassau bracket at Baha Mar Hoops.

Brown-Jones also contributed nine rebounds for the Spartans (5-1). Atwell scored 11 points, and Kobe Langley added 10 points and four steals.

Isaiah Rivera finished with 14 points for the Flames (5-2). Steven Clay added nine points for UIC. In addition, Filip finished with nine points. The Flames ended a five-game winning streak with the loss.

UNC Asheville 77, Western Kentucky 67

LAVAL, Quebec — Nicholas McMullen scored 18 points as UNC Asheville beat Western Kentucky 77-67 on Sunday in the Northern Classic.

McMullen was 6 of 9 shooting and 6 of 10 from the free throw line for the Bulldogs (4-3). Fletcher Abee scored 17 points, while Drew Pember and Josh Banks both had 15 points.

The Hilltoppers (4-3) were led by Jalen Jackson, who posted 14 points. Rodney Howard added 12 points and six rebounds for Western Kentucky. Tyrone Marshall also had 12 points and two steals.

Appalachian State 78, Austin Peay 58

BOONE — Tre’Von Spillers scored 20 points as Appalachian State beat Austin Peay 78-58 on Sunday.

Spillers added seven rebounds for the Mountaineers (4-2). Donovan Gregory scored 17 points and Jordan Marsh finished with 13.

The Governors (3-4) were led in scoring by Demarcus Sharp, who finished with 22 points, five assists and four steals. Austin Peay also got 11 points and two steals from Ja’Monta Black. Dezi Jones also had 10 points.

North Carolina Central 70, Coastal Carolina 58

CONWAY, S.C. — Po’Boigh King had 21 points in North Carolina Central’s 70-58 victory against Coastal Carolina on Sunday.

King added nine rebounds for the Eagles (4-4). Ja’Darius Harris scored 21 points and added seven rebounds. Fred Cleveland Jr. finished with 18 points.

The Chanticleers (1-4) were led in scoring by Jon Sanders, who finished with 14 points. Coastal Carolina also got 13 points, seven rebounds and three steals from Jacob Meyer. In addition, John Ojiako had 12 points, 10 rebounds and four steals.

High Point 122, Mount Olive 73

AMHERST, Mass. — Duke Miles’ 20 points helped High Point defeat Mount Olive 122-73 on Sunday.

Miles also had six assists for the Panthers (4-3). Kezza Giffa scored 19 points and added six assists. Trae Benham finished with 12 points.

Josiah Watkins finished with 12 points, seven rebounds, six assists and two steals for the Trojans. Trey Nelson added 11 points for Mount Olive. Aaron Murphy also had 10 points.

Western Carolina 81, North Alabama 63

CULLOWHEE — Vonterius Woolbright scored 19 points as Western Carolina beat North Alabama 81-63 on Sunday night.

Woolbright had 15 rebounds and six assists for the Catamounts (5-0). Tre Jackson scored 18 points and added seven rebounds. Kamar Robertson had 16 points and was 7 of 8 shooting.

The Lions (3-3) were led in scoring by Damien Forrest, who finished with 13 points. North Alabama also got 11 points from Jacari Lane. KJ Johnson also had 10 points.
