GREENSBORO — Incumbent North Carolina Republican Party chairman Michael Whatley secured a third term during the business session of last weekend’s state Republican convention. Whatley won the party’s vote by a 62-38% margin over Raleigh businessman John Kane Jr.

“I am honored and humbled to be reelected as Chairman of the North Carolina Republican Party. I am looking forward to working with Republicans across the Old North State to win big in 2024!” wrote Whatley on Twitter.

The convention was the largest on record for the state Republican Party with nearly 2,000 registered delegates.

Whatley went on to call the 2023 convention the biggest event in the history of the party.

“Over four days we celebrated our great victories in 2022, reconnected with friends from across the Old North State, conducted our party’s business and heard from an amazing array of Republican speakers, officials and candidates – including the three top presidential contenders,” Whatley told North State Journal.
