New NRCC ad targets state Democrats over national debt

The National Republican Congressional Committee is going after over 35 Democratic members of Congress over the national debt and federal spending in front of the much-discussed meeting between President Joe Biden, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell and Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

The five-figure ad, which is running in Congressional district across the country, goes after a trio of North Carolina freshman Democrats: Don Davis (NC-01), Wiley Nickel (NC-13) and Jeff Jackson (NC-14) who all voted against the Limit, Save, Grow Act last month.

The bill, which raises the debt ceiling and implements spending caps, passed by a 217-215 vote in the U.S. House of Representatives on April 25. Biden has said he would veto that bill and has continued to insist on a so-called “clean” debt ceiling increase.

The national debt stands currently at $31.7 billion. U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen has warned that the “X” day when the government runs out of money could come as soon as June 1.
