College Basketball Roundup: Reid’s 15 leads Gardner-Webb past Charleston Southern

Campbell picked up a win, while WCU and ECU both suffered losses

CHARLESTON, S.C. — Kareem Reid scored 15 points to help Gardner-Webb defeat Charleston Southern 67-59 on Wednesday night.

Reid added seven rebounds for the Runnin’ Bulldogs (12-11, 7-4 Big South Conference). Anthony Selden scored 15 points, and DQ Nicholas recorded 12.

The Buccaneers (8-14, 4-7) were led by Claudell Harris Jr., who recorded 13 points. Tahlik Chavez added 12 points for Charleston Southern. Taje’ Kelly also recorded 11 points and nine rebounds.

Campbell 78, South Carolina Upstate 66

BUIES CREEK, N.C. — Ricky Clemons had 17 points in Campbell’s 78-66 win against South Carolina Upstate on Wednesday night.

Clemons also contributed five assists for the Fighting Camels (10-13, 5-6 Big South Conference). Anthony Dell’Orso was 5-of-10 shooting, including 2 for 3 from distance, to add 16 points.

The Spartans (9-13, 4-7) were led in scoring by Trae Broadnax, who finished with 20 points. Jordan Gainey added 15 points for South Carolina Upstate. Justin Bailey also had 13 points and three steals.

Both teams play again on Saturday. Campbell visits Longwood and South Carolina Upstate hosts UNC Asheville.

Samford 85, Western Carolina 77

CULLOWHEE — Logan Dye scored 24 points to help Samford defeat Western Carolina 85-77 on Wednesday night.

Dye also added seven rebounds for the Bulldogs (15-9, 9-2 Southern Conference). A.J. Staton-McCray added 18 points and 10 rebounds. Ques Glover recorded 17 points.

The Catamounts (12-12, 5-6) were led in scoring by Tyzhaun Claude, who finished with 24 points. Vonterius Woolbright added 16 points, five assists and four steals for Western Carolina. Russell Jones finished with 14 points.

South Florida 71, East Carolina 63

TAMPA, Fla. — Tyler Harris scored 21 points as South Florida beat East Carolina 71-63 on Wednesday night.

Harris shot 6 for 13 (5 for 10 from 3-point range) for the Bulls (10-13, 3-7 American Athletic Conference). Jamir Chaplin scored 17 points, and Russel Tchewa finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

RJ Felton led the Pirates (11-12, 2-8) in scoring, finishing with 18 points. Ezra Ausar added 15 points, eight rebounds and two steals for East Carolina. Brandon Johnson also put up 10 points and four steals.
