RALEIGH — Celebrations of National School Choice Week have been scheduled across North Carolina and nation for the week of Jan. 22-28.
National School Choice Week celebrates all K-12 educational opportunities available including homeschooling, public charter schools, magnet schools, online learning, private schools, and traditional public schools.
The aptly named group, National School Choice Week, has helped to organize and promote events every year since the first celebration week was held in 2011. The organization is a project of the National School Choice Awareness Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
Dozens of events are being hosted across North Carolina, including a school fair event in High Point on Jan. 21 that includes over two dozen public charter schools. Alongside showcasing the schools, kids can have fun with facepainting, balloon art, raffles, a photo booth and treats like cookies and lemonade.
“Our schools are excited to showcase their unique educational programing. There is a school to meet your child’s needs. Come see for yourself what North Carolina public charter schools have to offer,” said Rhonda Dillingham, executive director of the NC Association for Public Charter Schools. This event is hosted by the North Carolina Association for Public Charter Schools, which exists to advance quality educational opportunities for all North Carolina children by supporting and expanding successful charter schools.
The event is free to the public and will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Blue Heron event venue located at 4130 Mendenhall Oaks Pkwy. For more information, contact Rhonda Dillingham at [email protected] or call (336) 669-9996.
Another event taking place in Raleigh is a School Choice Luncheon and student rally being held on Jan. 26. The luncheon begins at noon at The Fairview located at 1125 Capital Blvd. The luncheon is $30 and is hosted by NC Association for Public Charter Schools and NC Coalition for Charter Schools and is also sponsored by National School Choice Week.
Parents for Educational Freedom in North Carolina is also hosting a Student Showcase event on Jan 26 at the Sheraton Hotel in Raleigh.
