Valerie Foushee wins 4th Congressional District race

Valerie Foushee won the election in North Carolina’s 4th Congressional District.

RALEIGH — State Sen. Valerie Foushee won the open 4th Congressional District seat over Durham County nurse Courtney Geels.

Foushee, a longtime elected official in Orange County, served 4½ terms in the N.C. Senate.

“For decades, Valerie Foushee has worked relentlessly in Orange County and in both chambers of the General Assembly, to ensure her community has equal access to social and economic resources that put them on the path to success and fought for the next generation of leaders to receive a quality, affordable education that will allow them to reach their highest potential,” NC Democratic Party chair Bobbie Richardson said.

Foushee will succeed U.S. Rep. David Price, who represented the Triangle-area seat for decades.
