Campbell, WCU, App State, Queens and Davidson all earned wins

MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica — Freshman Chance Stephens hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 16 seconds remaining in overtime and Loyola Marymount rallied to beat Wake Forest 77-75 in the Jamaica Classic on Sunday.

Stephens came off the bench to score 23 points for the Lions (4-2). He sank 7 of 10 shots — all from 3-point range. Cam Shelton finished with 20 points, six rebounds and four steals and it was Shelton’s 3-pointer with 1 second left that sent the game to overtime tied at 65. Justin Ahrens scored 11. Keli Leaupepe had 10 rebounds to go with nine points.

Stephens made all five of his first-half 3-pointers, turning the second one into a four-point play, to help LMU take a 35-25 lead into intermission.

Wake Forest whittled away at the lead and Damari Monsanto buried a 3-pointer to put the Demon Deacons up 45-44 with 9:49 left to play. A three-point play by Matthew Marsh and a layup by Cameron Hildreth gave Wake Forest a 65-57 lead with 2:01 to go.

Stephens sank a 3, Leaupepe had a layup off a turnover and Shelton’s 3 capped an 8-0 run to send the game to OT.

Tyree Appleby finished with 19 points, eight rebounds, eight assists and three steals to lead Wake Forest (4-1). Marsh scored 14 on 6-of-7 shooting with six boards off the bench. Hildreth and Andrew Carr both scored 10. Carr added eight rebounds.

Campbell 85, Kennesaw State 61

BOONE — Juan Reyna’s 27 points helped Campbell defeat Kennesaw State 85-61 on Sunday.

Reyna shot 7 for 10 (4 for 7 from 3-point range) and 9 of 9 from the free-throw line for the Fighting Camels (3-2).

Anthony Dell’Orso added 18 points while shooting 7 of 10 from the field and 4 for 4 from the line for Campbell. Jesus Carralero scored 16 with seven rebounds.

Chris Youngblood led the way for the Owls (4-2) with 17 points. Terrell Burden added 15 points.

Campbell’s next game is Wednesday against Jacksonville at home.

Western Carolina 90, Lindenwood 88 (OT)

LAKE CHARLES, La. — Russell Jones Jr. had a three-point play with six seconds remaining in overtime to rally Western Carolina to a 90-88 victory over Lindenwood on Sunday.

Tre Jackson led Western Carolina (4-2) with 19 points. He added six rebounds and four steals. Jones finished with 17 points and Tyzhaun Claude scored 16.

Claude made a layup at the buzzer for Western Carolina to send the game to overtime tied at 80.

Cam Burrell finished with 24 points, seven rebounds, two steals and two blocks for the Lions (2-4). Kevin Caldwell Jr. totaled 20 points, nine assists and seven rebounds. Chris Childs scored 13 with seven boards.

Western Carolina plays UNC Asheville on the road on Saturday.

Appalachian State 83, SE Louisiana 74

BOONE — Dibaji Walker scored 17 points as Appalachian State beat SE Louisiana 83-74 on Sunday night.

Walker also contributed six rebounds for the Mountaineers (4-2). Donovan Gregory added 16 points while going 4 of 9 from the field and 8 of 8 from the free-throw line. He also had eight rebounds. Tyree Boykin shot 4 for 13 (2 for 8 from 3-point range) and 4 of 5 from the free-throw line to finish with 14 points.

The Lions (3-3) were led by Brody Rowbury, who recorded 12 points and 11 rebounds. Roscoe Eastmond added 12 points for SE Louisiana. In addition, Roger McFarlane finished with 11 points, 12 rebounds and two steals.

Queens 74, Morgan State 64

MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica — Jay’Den Turner had 23 points in Queens’ 74-64 win over Morgan State on Sunday night.

Turner had seven rebounds for the Royals (4-1). Kenny Dye added 18 points while going 6 of 9 from the floor, including 3 for 3 from distance, and he also had five assists. AJ McKee was 3-of-8 shooting, including 2 for 5 from distance, to finish with 10 points.

The Bears (2-4) were led in scoring by Malik Miller, who finished with 16 points, eight rebounds and two steals. Isaiah Burke added 15 points for Morgan State. In addition, David McCullough had nine points.

Davidson 66, Old Dominion 61

CHARLESTON, S.C. — Sam Mennenga scored 23 points as Davidson beat Old Dominion 66-61 on Sunday.

Mennenga added seven rebounds for the Wildcats (5-1). Foster Loyer scored 22 points and added 10 rebounds. David Skogman made all seven of his free throws and scored 13.

The Monarchs (3-3) were led in scoring by Ben Stanley, who finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Old Dominion also got 11 points and five assists from Chaunce Jenkins. Tyreek Scott-Grayson finished with 10 points and five assists.

Loyer put up 10 points in the first half for Davidson, who led 32-23 at intermission. Mennenga’s 16-point second half helped Davidson close out the victory.

Davidson next plays Friday against San Francisco at home, and Old Dominion will host East Carolina on Saturday.

Wofford 78, N.C. A&T 64

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Jackson Paveletzke had 21 points in Wofford’s 78-64 victory against N.C. A&T on Sunday night.

Paveletzke had six assists for the Terriers (3-2). Jackson Sivills scored 13 points while shooting 5 for 6, including 3 for 4 from beyond the arc. B.J. Mack was 5 of 11 shooting (2 for 4 from distance) to finish with 12 points.

Kam Woods led the Aggies (1-4) in scoring, finishing with 17 points. Marcus Watson added 16 points and four assists for N.C. A&T. In addition, Demetric Horton had 11 points.

Georgia State 74, UNC Asheville 68

ATLANTA — Dwon Odom’s 27 points helped Georgia State defeat UNC Asheville 74-68 on Sunday night.

Odom also added seven rebounds for the Panthers (4-2). Danny Stubbs scored 16 points while going 4 of 9 from the floor, including 2 for 5 from distance. Kalin Brooks shot 5 for 10, including 2 for 4 from beyond the arc to finish with 12 points.

Tajion Jones led the way for the Bulldogs (3-2) with 21 points, six rebounds and two blocks. Drew Pember added 20 points, eight rebounds and three blocks for UNC Asheville. In addition, Alex Caldwell had eight points.

UMass 60, Charlotte 54

CONWAY, S.C. — Matt Cross scored 12 points to help Massachusetts defeat Charlotte 60-54 in the Myrtle Beach Invitational on Sunday.

Cross was 5-of-7 shooting (2 for 3 from distance) for the Minutemen (4-1). T.J. Weeks added 11 points and nine rebounds. RJ Luis scored nine with six boards.

Aly Khalifa led the 49ers (4-1) in scoring, finishing with 12 points. Igor Milicic Jr. added 11 points, while Brice Williams scored nine.

Cross put up 10 points in the first half for UMass, which led 38-28 at halftime.

Charlotte visits Detroit Mercy on Wednesday.
