College Basketball Roundup: Threadgill 3 at OT buzzer lifts Charlotte over Davidson

NC State , NC Central, Queens and Wake Forest all won Tuesday

DAVIDSON — Jackson Threadgill made a game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer and Charlotte beat Davidson 68-66 in overtime on Tuesday night.

Aly Khalifa had 19 points and 16 rebounds for the 49ers (6-2). Igor Milicic Jr. scored 18 points while going 6 of 11 from the floor, including 4 for 7 from distance, and added seven rebounds. Lu’Cye Patterson recorded nine points.

Foster Loyer led the Wildcats (6-2) in scoring, finishing with 22 points, eight assists and two steals. Sam Mennenga added 21 points and seven rebounds for Davidson. In addition, Desmond Watson finished with 10 points and seven rebounds.

NC Central 79, UNC Asheville 66

DURHAM — Kris Monroe scored 23 points as North Carolina Central beat UNC Asheville 79-66 on Tuesday night.

Monroe shot 9 for 13, including 5 for 9 from beyond the arc, for the Eagles (4-3). Justin Wright scored 16 points and added three steals. Eric Boone finished with 11 points, seven assists and three steals.

Alex Caldwell led the Bulldogs (4-3) in scoring, finishing with 16 points. Drew Pember added 15 points, eight rebounds and three blocks for UNC Asheville. Tajion Jones also had 15 points.

NC State 85, William & Mary 64

RALEIGH — Casey Morsell scored 23 points, Terquavion Smith had 13 points, five rebounds and seven assists, and NC State beat William & Mary 85-64 on Tuesday night.

Morsell tied a career-high with six 3-pointers as NC State went 12 of 28 (32%) from distance. Morsell also had six 3-pointers in a 107-74 win over FIU in early November, and he had five against then-No. 3 Kansas later in the month.

Jack Clark had 12 points, seven rebounds and three steals, and Dusan Mahorcic added 12 points and nine boards for the Wolfpack (7-1). Jarkel Joiner added 11 points and six assists.

NC State held William & Mary to 39% shooting with 17 turnovers.

Smith and Morsell each scored 10 points in the first half to help NC State build a 43-26 lead. The Wolfpack closed the opening period on a 26-9 run. William & Mary was held to 10-of-28 shooting (36%) in the first half.

Noah Collier collected his second career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds for William & Mary (3-5).

NC State stays at home to play Pittsburgh on Friday.

Wake Forest 78, Wisconsin 75

MADISON, Wisc. — Tyree Appleby scored 20 of his season-high 32 points in the second half and Wake Forest beat Wisconsin 78-75 on Tuesday night in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

Damari Monsanto’s turnaround jumper with 1:33 left gave Wake Forest a 72-71 lead, its first since 9:51 remained. Cameron Hildreth’s jumper with 34 seconds to play made it a 74-73 Wake Forest advantage and Tyler Wahl missed a layup on the other end. Appleby and Cameron Hildreth each made a pair of free throws before Chucky Hepburn missed a 3 to end it.

Appleby, a transfer from Florida, was 11 of 16 from the floor, made four 3-pointers and had five assists for Wake Forest (7-1). Hildreth added 15 points and Monsanto had 13.

Hepburn shot 6 of 12 from long range and scored 23 points to lead Wisconsin (5-2). Wahl finished with 17 points, Steven Crowl added 15 points and Connor Essegian had 12.

Wake Forest led for most of the first 11-plus minutes of the second half before back-to-back 3s from Crowl and Essegian gave the Badgers a 57-52 lead with 1:33 left.

Wake Forest is 4-0 against Wisconsin, with its last victory coming exactly 17 years ago on Nov. 29, 2005.

Queens 72, Bowling Green 66

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — Kenny Dye’s 24 points helped Queens defeat Bowling Green 72-66 on Tuesday night.

Dye was 9-of-14 shooting for the Royals (6-2). AJ McKee scored 11 points and added seven rebounds. Jay’Den Turner recorded nine points.

The Falcons (2-5) were led in scoring by Samari Curtis, who finished with 16 points. Chandler Turner added 15 points, eight rebounds, two steals and two blocks for Bowling Green. In addition, Rashaun Agee had 14 points and seven rebounds.

South Carolina State 73, East Carolina 68

GREENVILLE — Lesown Hallums scored 22 points as South Carolina State beat East Carolina 73-68 on Tuesday night.

Hallums added six rebounds for the Bulldogs (1-7). Cam Jones scored 13 points, and Rakeim Gary finished with 12 points. The Bulldogs snapped a seven-game skid.

The Pirates (5-3) were led in scoring by Ezra Ausar, who finished with 18 points and seven rebounds. RJ Felton added 14 points for East Carolina. Javon Small also had 12 points, six rebounds and seven assists.

Furman 65, Appalachian State 61

BOONE — Mike Bothwell scored 23 points as Furman beat Appalachian State 65-61 on Tuesday night.

Bothwell shot 6 for 14 from the field and made all 10 of his free threows for the Paladins (5-2). Jalen Slawson scored 16 points and added 12 rebounds and three steals. Marcus Foster recorded 12 points.

Donovan Gregory led the Mountaineers (5-3) in scoring, finishing with 12 points. Terence Harcum added 11 points for Appalachian State. In addition, CJ Huntley had 10 points, seven rebounds and two blocks.
