College Basketball Roundup: House’s 33 leads High Point over Wofford

UNC Asheville, East Carolina pick up victories

HIGH POINT — Jaden House’s 33 points led High Point over Wofford 91-80 on Saturday night.

House was 10-of-15 shooting, including 2 for 4 from distance, and went 11 for 12 from the line for the Panthers (2-0). Zach Austin scored 16 points while going 6 of 12 (4 for 10 from distance) and added 10 rebounds and four blocks. Abdoulaye Thiam shot 4 for 11, including 1 for 5 from beyond the arc to finish with 11 points.

The Terriers (1-1) were led in scoring by B.J. Mack, who finished with 21 points. Wofford also got 18 points from Jackson Paveletzke. In addition, Corey Tripp had 11 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals.

High Point hosts Lees-McRae on Tuesday.

UNC Asheville 94, Brevard 46

ASHEVILLE — Tajion Jones’s 14 points helped UNC Asheville coast past Brevard 94-46 on Saturday.

Jones shot 5 for 8, including 2 for 5 from beyond the arc for the Bulldogs (2-0). Fletcher Abee shot 5 for 7, including 4 for 5 from beyond the arc to add 14 points. Jamon Battle shot 5 of 5 from the field and 3 for 5 from the line to finish with 13 points while adding seven rebounds.

Charles Reed finished with 11 points and seven rebounds for the Tornados (0-2). Brevard also got 11 points from Jadon Carnes. Carson Evans also had seven points.

Up next for UNC Asheville is a matchup Friday with Texas A&M-Commerce. Brevard visits Western Carolina on Saturday.

East Carolina 77, Presbyterian 57

GREENVILLE — RJ Felton scored 23 points as East Carolina beat Presbyterian 77-57 on Saturday night.

Felton also had five rebounds for the Pirates (2-0). Javon Small added 16 points while shooting 4 for 8 (3 for 5 from 3-point range) and 5 of 6 from the free-throw line, and he also had five rebounds and seven assists. Kalib LaCount was 5-of-8 shooting, including 2 for 3 from distance, and went 4 for 5 from the line to finish with 16 points.

The Blue Hose (1-2) were led in scoring by Terrell Ard Jr., who finished with 13 points, seven rebounds and two blocks. Marquis Barnett added 11 points and two blocks for Presbyterian. Owen McCormack also had 11 points.

LaCount scored 13 points in the first half and East Carolina went into halftime trailing 32-26. Felton’s 20-point second half helped East Carolina close out the 20-point victory.
