RALEIGH — A group formed in Alamance County that was inspired by Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson’s F.A.C.T.S task force has launched another chapter in New Hanover County.

The group is calling itself “FACT’s Task Force 2.0.”

“Ending political indoctrination and child sexualization in North Carolina’s public and charter schools is the paramount mission of the FACT’s Task Force 2.0,” the group’s Director and co-founder Mamie Brooks said in a press release.

Brooks and her husband started the first chapter in Sept. 2021 in Alamance County.

Robinson’s 12-person Fairness and Accountability in the Classroom for Teachers and Students (F.A.C.T.S) task force was launched in March 2021 to investigate lessons and materials that may be inappropriate or politically biased. The task force issued its findings in August of the same year in a report that included over 500 examples submitted by the public of politically skewed or otherwise inappropriate items found in the state’s K-12 districts.

Some 60-65 people attended an Aug. 17 meeting was held to launch the next chapter in New Hanover County.

Gail Major, M.Ed. from Carolina Beach has been named the new chapter’s coordinator. Major’s team has already begun coordinating with a number of organizations, thanks to the Brooks, such as “Pavement Education Project (PEP), NHC Concerned Citizens, Pender County Concerned Citizens, and NHC Moms for Liberty,” per a press statement.

Per the group’s press release, Brooks stated her group efforts are a little different than Robinson’s task force. She said her organization will be focused on rallying parents and concerned citizens at the grassroots to “ardently oppose and expose all forms of political indoctrination.”

Brooks stated her group is actively organizing volunteer teams statewide to conduct research, recruit attorneys, speak at school board meetings, and provide students, parents and teachers with opportunities to anonymously report inappropriate classroom activities.
