RALEIGH — The North State Journal, North Carolina’s only statewide newspaper, won 19 individual awards during the 2022 N.C. Press Association annual convention on Thursday, Aug. 25 in Raleigh.
This year’s event was the first to be held in-person since February 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The awards covered a publishing period of Oct. 1, 2020 through Feb. 28, 2022. The awards continued to show how North State Journal’s dedicated team continues to elevate the conversation as the awards covered an array of categories.
For the 2021-2022 News, Editorial and Photojournalism contest, NSJ received five first-place awards, seven second-place awards and seven third-place awards. The total of 19 outpaced all other competitors in NSJ’s awards division. The newspaper was also recognized for overall general excellence during the publishing period.
“I couldn’t be prouder of our staff and congratulate them all for their wins this year,” North State Journal editor in chief Matt Mercer said. “North State Journal is dedicated to informing and engaging with our readers about what is happening across North Carolina each week.”
