RALEIGH — NASCAR team owner Richard Childress will donate 1 million rounds of ammunition to Ukraine, according news reports.

Childress, whose NASCAR team is based in the Davidson County town of Welcome, said on Fox News Channel, “I was listening the other day and heard President Zelenskyy say he didn’t want out, he wanted ammunition,” in an interview on Wednesday.

Childress sits on the board of AMMO, Inc., a publicly-traded company.

The Fox News report states that Childress and the company will work through a private company to overcome logistical hurdles to get the ammunition to Ukraine.

“This is a wake-up call for America, and why we have to have our Second Amendment,” he said in the interview with Fox News’ Brian Kilmeade.
