Gardner-Webb was the only N.C. team to get a win in Friday's Big South Tournament action

ASHEVILLE — Kamar Robertson recorded 16 points and 12 rebounds to lead Mercer to an 81-53 win over Western Carolina in the first round of the Southern Conference Tourney on Friday night.

James Glisson III had 13 points for Mercer (16-16). Jalen Johnson added 11 points. Felipe Haase had 10 points.

Nick Robinson had 14 points and 12 rebounds for the Catamounts (11-21). Vonterius Woolbright added 11 points and six rebounds. Cam Bacote had 11 points.

Big South Tournament

Gardner-Webb 54, Campbell 53

CHARLOTTE — Lance Terry had 14 points as Gardner-Webb held off Campbell 54-53 in the Big South Conference tournament quarterfinals on Friday night.

D’Maurian Williams had 11 points for Gardner-Webb (18-12). Kareem Reid added eight rebounds. Jordan Sears had six rebounds.

After Gardner-Webb outscored Campbell 23-22 in the first half, both teams scored 31 in the second as Gardner-Webb clinched the victory. Both teams set season lows for scoring in the first half. The Runnin’ Bulldogs’ 23 points in the first half were the lowest of the season for Gardner-Webb, while the 22 points in the first half for the Fighting Camels marked the fewest of the season for Campbell.

Jordan Whitfield scored a season-high 20 points for the Fighting Camels (16-13). Cedric Henderson Jr. added 11 points. Jesus Carralero had eight rebounds.

Longwood 79, NC A&T 65 (OT)

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Justin Hill had 10 of his 24 points in overtime as Longwood beat North Carolina A&T 79-65 in the quarterfinals of the Big South Conference Tourney on Friday.

Hill hit 12 of 14 free throws, including 6 of6 in OT. He added seven rebounds.

DeShaun Wade had 17 points for Longwood (24-6). Isaiah Wilkins added 15 points and 12 rebounds. Zac Watson had 12 points and seven rebounds.

Marcus Watson had 27 points and 12 rebounds for the Aggies (12-20), who missed seven of eight shots in overtime and were forced to foul. Demetric Horton added 12 points. Jeremy Robinson had 12 points and seven rebounds.

Both teams missed a shot in the last 20 seconds of regulation to force the overtime.

Winthrop 68, High Point 51

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Cory Hightower had 21 points as Winthrop topped High Point 68-51 in the Big South Conference Championship quarterfinals on Friday night.

Micheal Anumba had 11 points for Winthrop (22-8). D.J. Burns Jr. added 10 points. Drew Buggs had six rebounds.

Patrick Good, the Eagles’ second leading scorer coming into the contest at 12 points per game, had only 3 points. He shot 20% from 3-point range (1 of 5).

High Point scored 17 first-half points, a season low.

John-Michael Wright had 21 points and eight rebounds for the Panthers (14-18). Jaden House added 20 points.

Zach Austin, who was second on the Panthers in scoring entering the contest with 15 points per game, was held scoreless on 0-of-10 shooting.
