College basketball roundup: Campbell wins in 2OT, joins High Point, NC A&T in Big South’s 2nd round

CHARLOTTE — Milos Stajcic hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer and turned it into a four-point play to earn Campbell a 75-72 win over Presbyterian in double overtime in a first-round game of the Big South Conference tournament on Wednesday night.

Jordan Whitfield had 16 points to lead five Campbell players in double figures. Cedric Henderson Jr. added 15 points for the Fighting Camels. Jesus Carralero chipped in 14, Stajcic scored 11 and Austin McCullough had 10. Carralero also had 13 rebounds, eight assists and three blocks.

Presbyterian scored 19 points in the first half, a season low for the team.

Winston Hill had 20 points and nine rebounds for the Blue Hose (12-20). Rayshon Harrison added 18 points. Marquis Barnett had 17 points.

Big South Tournament

High Point 84, Hampton 77 (OT)

CHARLOTTE — Zach Austin had 24 points and 16 rebounds as High Point beat Hampton 84-77 in overtime in the first round of the Big South Conference tournament on Wednesday night.

Jaden House had 19 points for High Point (14-17). John-Michael Wright added 13 points. Alex Holt had 13 points and nine rebounds.

Russell Dean had 28 points and eight rebounds for the Pirates (9-19). Najee Garvin added 15 points and 13 rebounds. Marquis Godwin had 10 points.

NC A&T 78, Radford 71 (OT)

CHARLOTTE — Marcus Watson had 18 points and 11 rebounds to lift North Carolina A&T to a 78-71 overtime win over Radford in the first round of the Big South Conference tournament on Wednesday.

Jeremy Robinson had 17 points for North Carolina A&T (12-19). Tyler Maye added 10 points.

Josiah Jeffers had 18 points for the Highlanders (11-18). Bryan Hart and Lewis Djonkam had 10 points apiece.

Charleston Southern 79, UNC Asheville 78

CHARLOTTE — Taje’ Kelly had a season-high 24 points, including the game-winning putback at the buzzer, as Charleston Southern narrowly beat UNC Asheville 79-78 in the first round of the Big South Conference Tourney on Wednesday.

The Bulldogs took a 78-77 lead on two free throws by Silas Mason with 6.8 seconds to play. Kelly inbounded the ball to Deontaye Buskey, who raced upcourt, drove down the lane and kicked to the right corner to Jamir Moore. Moore’s shot bounced off the iron to Kelly for the winner.

Kelly made 11 of 14 shots. He added seven rebounds.

Buskey had 18 points, seven rebounds and six assists for Charleston Southern (6-24). Tahlik Chavez added 13 points. Claudell Harris Jr. had 10 points.

LJ Thorpe had 18 points for the Bulldogs (16-14). Drew Pember added 16 points. Tajion Jones had 11 points and eight rebounds.

Regular season play

Davidson 73, George Mason 62

DAVIDSON — Hyunjung Lee had 18 points off the bench to lead Davidson to a 73-62 win over George Mason on Wednesday night.

Luka Brajkovic had 15 points for Davidson (25-4, 15-2 Atlantic 10 Conference), which earned its fifth consecutive win. Grant Huffman added 11 points.

D’Shawn Schwartz, Devon Cooper and Josh Oduro each had 11 points for the Patriots (14-14, 7-8).

Charlotte 60, Middle Tennessee 56

CHARLOTTE — Jahmir Young recorded 16 points and 11 rebounds to lift Charlotte to a 60-56 win over Middle Tennessee on Wednesday night.

Austin Butler had 12 points and six rebounds for Charlotte (16-13, 9-8 Conference USA). Clyde Trapp Jr. added 11 points and nine rebounds.

Camryn Weston had 16 points for the Blue Raiders (22-8, 13-4), whose eight-game win streak was snapped. Eli Lawrence added 13 points and six rebounds. Donovan Sims had 10 points.
