App State prevails in overtime; ECU, Charlotte and Campbell all pick up wins

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Jake LaRavia scored 15 points to lead four in double figures and Wake Forest pulled away in the final six minutes to beat Virginia 63-55 on Saturday, snapping a nine-game losing streak to the Cavaliers.

Wake Forest (14-4, 4-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) has won three of its last four while also ending a six-game skid in Charlottesville.

The Demon Deacons used a 13-0 run to take a 53-47 lead with 4:18 to play. Daivien Williamson and Isaiah Mucius each made a 3-pointer and LaRavia’s dunk capped the surge. The Cavaliers pulled within four points four times in the closing minutes but didn’t get closer.

Alondes Williams scored 14 points for the Deacons. Williamson and Mucius added 12 points each and made five of the Deacons’ six 3-pointers.

Armaan Franklin scored 18 points but didn’t score in the final 12 minutes of the game to lead Virginia (10-7, 4-3). Kody Stattmann matched a career best with 11 points. The pair were a combined 11-of-19 shooting from the floor and made all five of the Cavaliers’ 3-pointers, but the rest shot 10 of 39 (26%) overall.

The Cavaliers had scored 65 or more points in seven of their last nine games against the Demon Deacons.

Wake Forest plays at Georgia Tech on Wednesday.

Appalachian State 84, Coastal Carolina 76 (OT)

CONWAY, S.C. — Adrian Delph scored 25 points, Donovan Gregory added 20 and Appalachian State defeated Coastal Carolina 84-76 in overtime on Saturday.

The game was tied at 74 in overtime before Justin Forrest hit a 3-pointer to start a 10-2 game-ending run for the Mountaineers.

Forrest finished with 11 points and James Lewis Jr. added 13 points and 14 rebounds for the Mountaineers (10-9, 4-2 Sun Belt).

Vince Cole had 20 points and Rudi Williams scored 19 for the Chanticleers (9-8, 1-4). Wilfried Likayi had 12 points and 10 rebounds.

East Carolina 72, Memphis 71

GREENVILLE — Vance Jackson and Brandon Suggs scored 17 points each and East Carolina defeated Memphis 72-71 on Saturday.

Memphis led by 14 at halftime and still by 10 with 2:22 remaining in the game. East Carolina scored 10 points to tie it and after a Memphis free throw, Suggs buried a jumper for the win with 2 seconds left.

Alanzo Frink, Tremont Robinson-White and Tristen Newton added 11 points each for the Pirates (11-5, 2-2 American).

Jalen Duren had 15 points and nine rebounds to lead five in double figures for Memphis (9-7, 3-3).

Campbell 70, Radford 58

BUIES CREEK — Jordan Whitfield hit three 3-pointers and scored 17 points and Ricky Clemons added 14 points and seven rebounds to power Campbell to a 70-58 victory over Radford in Big South Conference action on Saturday.

Clemons sank 6 of 7 shots from the floor for the Fighting Camels (9-6, 2-2), who shot 55% overall (28 of 51).

Josiah Jeffers scored 15 to top the Highlanders (5-11, 1-3). Rashun Williams pitched in with 12 points and five rebounds.

Charlotte 62, UTSA 53

CHARLOTTE — Jahmir Young scored 15 points and Charlotte defeated UTSA 62-53 on Saturday.

Robert Braswell added 14 points and Jackson Threadgill scored 11 for the 49ers (9-5, 2-0 C-USA).

Christian Tucker led the Roadrunners (7-11, 0-5) with 10 points. Five players scored six.

Wofford 84, Western Carolina 64

CULLOWHEE — B.J. Mack totaled 22 points, nine rebounds and five assists and Isaiah Bigelow hit four 3-pointers and scored 19 with five assists to propel Wofford to an 84-64 victory over Western Carolina in Southern Conference action on Saturday.

Freshman Luke Turner came off the bench to post career highs 20 and 10 rebounds for his first double-double for the Terriers (11-7, 3-3). Turner made a career-best four 3-pointers in 10 tries. Ryan Larson pitched in with 11 points, nine rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Joe Petrakis made 5 of 10 from beyond the arc and scored 17 with six rebounds to lead the Catamounts (8-10, 2-3). Tyler Harris added 12 points, while Nicholas Robinson scored 11.

Mercer 58, UNC Greensboro 49

MACON, Ga. — Jalen Johnson scored 16 points and Mercer defeated UNC Greensboro 58-49 on Saturday.

Felipe Haase added 13 points and five assists for the Bears (10-7, 3-1 Southern Conference).

De’Monte Buckingham scored 18 points to lead the Spartans (10-7, 2-3). No other UNCG player reached double figures.

South Carolina Upstate 76, UNC Asheville 73

ASHEVILLE — Bryson Mozone hit a jumper with three seconds left to earn South Carolina Upstate a 76-73 win at UNC Asheville on Saturday.

Mozone scored half of his 16 points in the final 2:30 to earn the win. Jordan Gainey led the Spartans (6-10, 3-1 Big South) with 22 points.

Drew Pember led UNC Asheville (10-7, 2-2) with 27 points and eight rebounds. Jamon Battle added 16 points.

Longwood 66, Gardner-Webb 60

FARMVILLE, Va. — Isaiah Wilkins had 20 points with eight rebounds and four steals to lead Longwood to a 66-60 win over Gardner-Webb on Saturday.

Zac Watson, Jordan Perkins and Nate Lliteras each scored nine points for the Lancers (10-5, 2-0 Big South Conference).

Anthony Selden scored 17 points for the Bulldogs (9-8, 3-1). D’Maurian Williams had 12 points and seven rebounds. Kareem Reid had 12 points and seven rebounds.

Towson 59, Elon 54

ELON — Nicolas Timberlake and Juwan Gray each hit two free throws in the final seconds as Towson held on to beat Elon, 59-54 on Saturday.

Cameron Holden scored 24 points to lead Towson (12-5, 3-1 Colonial Athletic Association), which won its third straight. Gray added 14 points and nine rebounds.

Hunter McIntosh scored 13 points to lead Elon (4-13, 1-3), which now has lost three straight. Michael Graham and Chuck Hannah added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
