NC Central, UNCW get wins; Campbell loses to Georgia Southern

ELON — Jerald Gillens-Butler hit a 3-point from the left wing with 1.3 seconds left and Michael Graham had 13 points and 15 rebounds to lead Elon to a 63-61 win over Winthrop on Wednesday night, ending the Phoenix’s seven-game losing streak.

Drew Buggs had a decent look from just inside half court for Winthrop as time expired.

It was the only basket from Gillens-Butler.

Hunter Woods had 11 points for Elon (3-8). Hunter McIntosh added six assists.

D.J. Burns Jr. had 23 points for the Eagles (6-5). Patrick Good added 12 points.

NC Central 72, Gardner-Webb 71

DURHAM — Kris Monroe had 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting and NC Central survived a late rally by Gardner-Webb to win 72-71 Wednesday for its second straight win.

Dontavious King, who also had a game-high nine rebounds, was one of three Eagles (5-7) starters to score 10 points.

The Runnin’ Bulldogs lost their fourth straight despite shooting 51% from the field. Jordan Sears led Gardner-Webb (4-7) with 15 points, four rebounds and six assists off the bench, and D’Maurian Williams added 14 points and five rebounds.

UNC Wilmington 85, Mount Olive 55

WILMINGTON — Trazarien White had 21 points as UNC Wilmington easily beat Mount Olive 85-55 on Wednesday night.

James Baker Jr. had 16 points for UNC Wilmington (4-5). Mike Okauru added 10 points. Jaylen Fornes had six rebounds.

Michael Brown had 10 points for the Trojans. Ryan Archey added seven points and three rebounds. Javian Cannady had seven rebounds, three points and one block.

Georgia Southern 69, Campbell 66

BUIES CREEK — Elijah McCadden had 17 points and eight rebounds as Georgia Southern narrowly beat Campbell 69-66 on Wednesday night.

Kamari Brown had 16 points for Georgia Southern (6-4), which ended its four-game road losing streak. Tre Cobbs added 10 points.

The Eagles led by eight, 69-61, with 28 seconds left and held on through a Messiah Thompson 3-pointer and a Jesus Carralero layup. Austin McCullough stole the ball but missed a potentially game-tying 3 with four seconds to go.

Carralero had 16 points and eight rebounds for the Fighting Camels (7-3). Jordan Whitfield added 14 points. Cedric Henderson Jr. had 11 points and seven rebounds.
