College basketball roundup: Catamounts win in OT, stay perfect at home

Gardner-Webb and UNCA each lost at home

CULLOWHEE — Vonterius Woolbright had career highs in points and rebounds, and Nicholas Robinson had five of his game-high 19 points in overtime to lead Western Carolina to a 74-69 win over Tennessee Tech.

Woolbright had 17 points, 15 rebounds and five assists for the Catamounts (6-4), who improved to 3-0 at Ramsey Center this season.

Robinson, who also had 10 rebounds, made a 3-pointer with 18 seconds left in regulation to tie the game, and the Golden Eagles’ Kenny White Jr. couldn’t get a game-winner to fall with two seconds left to force overtime. White had 14 points and seven rebounds off the bench for Tennessee Tech (2-7), and guard Jr. Clay led the Golden Eagles with 15 points on 5-of-18 shooting.

Travion McCray (15 points) and Marcus Banks (11 points) also scored in double digits for the Catamounts, who have won three straight and five of six.

Chattanooga 78, UNC Asheville 73

ASHEVILLE — Malachi Smith had 28 points as Chattanooga edged past UNC Asheville 78-73 on Wednesday night.

Smith hit 9 of 12 shots. He added eight rebounds.

A.J. Caldwell had 15 points for Chattanooga (8-1), which earned its fifth straight road victory. Silvio De Sousa added 14 points and Avery Diggs had 11 points.

Tajion Jones had 22 points for the Bulldogs (5-4). Drew Pember added 19 points and seven rebounds. LJ Thorpe had 15 points and seven assists.

The Mocs improved to 2-0 against the Bulldogs on the season. Chattanooga defeated UNC Asheville 75-45 on Nov. 14.

Wofford 78, Gardner-Webb 70

BOILING SPRINGS — B.J. Mack had a career-high 28 points plus 13 rebounds as Wofford defeated Gardner-Webb 78-70 on Wednesday night.

Max Klesmit had 16 points for Wofford (7-3). Ryan Larson added 13 points. Isaiah Bigelow had six rebounds.

Lance Terry had 19 points for the Runnin’ Bulldogs (4-5). Jordan Sears added 12 points and D’Maurian Williams had 11 points.
