RALEIGH – The city of Raleigh will reimpose a city-wide indoor mask mandate at 5 p.m. Friday.

Citing an increase in COVID-19 cases, Raleigh mayor Mary Ann Baldwin moved forward with the mandate regardless of vaccination status in the city.

“The number of COVID-19 cases continues to increase in our community and across the state at an alarming rate,” said Baldwin. “The idea that we can hope COVID-19 will just go away on its own is not a reality. It’s time to take responsible action and today we are taking an important step to make sure the people of this community, and those who visit us, remain healthy and safe.”

Raleigh follows Durham, and cities in Orange County to impose the mask mandate. News reports indicated that Wake County will impose a county-wide mandate within the next week.
