GREENVILLE – At Saturday night’s NCGOP convention, former President Donald Trump endorsed U.S. Rep. Ted Budd in the 2022 Republican Senate primary.

“I give Ted Budd my complete and total endorsement,” Trump said.

He added that Budd wasn’t aware until 15 minutes before the speech that he was receiving the endorsement at the dinner.

While the crowd applauded, Trump said Budd never pressured him for the endorsement, and Budd advisers said they maintained open lines of communication with Trump.

Budd immediately began fundraising off of the news, sending an email to supporters.
