The coronavirus has done to the NC State women’s basketball team something that no opponent has been able to do so far this season.

Get the best of the Wolfpack.

Coach Wes Moore’s undefeated third-ranked team announced Tuesday that Thursday’s game at Virginia Tech and Sunday’s home game against Wake Forest have been postponed following a positive COVID-19 test and subsequent contact tracing within the program.

The Wolfpack, which is off to a 10-0 start for the third straight season, is coming off a 76-57 win against Boston College last Sunday that improved its ACC record to 5-0. Barring further postponements, State will have only one game back — against Virginia on Jan. 14 — before a highly anticipated showdown at No. 2 Louisville three days later.

In addition to the Wolfpack’s schedule changes, the ACC has also announced that Notre Dame’s upcoming games against Syracuse and Pittsburgh have been postponed because both the Orange and Panthers remain in COVID protocol.

As a result of postponements, Louisville will travel to Virginia Tech on Thursday while Boston College will travel to Wake Forest on Sunday. Both games were previously scheduled for later this season.
