Three N.C. teams played on the road Sunday

HAMPTON, Va. — Jamon Battle and Trent Stephney combined for 34 points and UNC Asheville defeated Hampton 85-77 on Sunday, rebounding from a two-point loss in the series the night before.

Battle matched his career high with 18 points while Stephney scored a career-best 16 points. LJ Thorpe added 17 points for the Bulldogs, Lavar Batts Jr. and Coty Jude had 11 points each for UNC Asheville (5-6, 4-2 Big South Conference).

Davion Warren, Hampton’s hero from Saturday, had 22 points and eight rebounds for the Pirates (5-8, 4-4). Chris Shelton added 15 points. Marquis Godwin had 13 points and seven rebounds.

Warren scored 20 of his career-high 32 in the second half as Hampton defeated UNC Asheville 73-71 on Saturday.

Winthrop 91, Gardner-Webb 83

ROCK HILL, S.C. — Chandler Vaudrin posted 17 points, eight rebounds and six assists as Winthrop extended its season-opening winning streak to 11 games, defeating Gardner-Webb 91-83 on Sunday.

Charles Falden had 15 points for Winthrop (11-0, 8-0 Big South Conference). D.J. Burns Jr. added 14 points and three blocks. Russell Jones Jr. had 11 points.

Winthrop’s season win streak is approaching last season’s 14-0 start. The Eagles have won 15 straight going back to the end of last season, third longest in program history.

Jacob Falko had 20 points for the Runnin’ Bulldogs (3-8, 2-4). Jaheam Cornwall added 18 points and nine assists. D’Maurian Williams had 12 points.

Gardner-Webb scored a season-high 46 points in the first half on 59% shooting less than 24 hours after shooting 30% to open Saturday’s game. Winthro came back from a 46-40 halftime deficit with a 51-point second half.

Winthrop defeated Gardner-Webb 75-65 on Saturday.

Longwood 78, Campbell 69

FARMVILLE, Va. — DeShaun Wade scored a career-high 22 points and led a second-half rally as Longwood topped Campbell 78-69 on Sunday night.

Wade made 8 of 10 shots, including 5 of 7 on 3-pointers as the Lancers, trailing 36-28 at the break, outscored Campbell 50-33 in the second half.

Juan Munoz had 16 points and six assists for Longwood (3-11, 2-6 Big South Conference). Justin Hill added 14 points. Leslie Nkereuwem had 11 points.

Jordan Whitfield had 23 points for the Fighting Camels (6-7, 2-4). Cedric Henderson Jr. added 17 points. Milos Stajcic had 10 points.

The Lancers leveled the season series against the Fighting Camels with the win. Campbell defeated Longwood 64-58 last Saturday.
