NELSON: Defend the Police. Defund Planned Parenthood.

Just a few short weeks ago, some friends of mine were praying at our local abortion clinic when a man drove to the building with a woman in the passenger seat. We have people praying outside the clinic every day, Monday through Saturday, and we’ve seen a lot. This particular situation became tense as the prayer group observed with anticipation of what exactly would happen next. My friends were fearful of the imminent danger the young woman in the car seemed to be experiencing.

Shortly after parking, the man immediately proceeded to the trunk of his car, produced a shotgun, and then returned to the car with the woman. My friends dialed 9-1-1 with a follow up phone call to alert the abortion clinic workers themselves. Thankfully, local police arrived very shortly and in force. While the prayer group was never threatened, the incident should serve as a reminder that law enforcement is always on call to protect and serve the community.

Even more thankfully, this event happened before any of the insane votes held at municipal levels to defund the police — like we saw in cities such as Minneapolis and Seattle. The “defund the police” movement, pushed by far-left radicals, has been one of the most damaging movements to erupt from the hearts and mind of the radical left.

A society is judged by how it treats the most vulnerable. Police officers protect the most vulnerable in a community. In the same vein, our prayer group and millions of pro-life Americans are working to protect the most vulnerable in our society — the unborn. Naturally, Joe Biden, and his newly selected running mate Kamala Harris, support redirecting funds from the police and support Planned Parenthood.

Unfortunately, with Joe Biden – a 44-year career politician – remaining in his Wilmington, Delaware, basement, Harris will be in a position to usher in pro-abortion policies that will lead to more lives lost. Fortunately, I truly believe California liberalism won’t fly across the rest of this country.

Let’s take a real quick look at the pros and cons of defunding the police and defending Planned Parenthood. Police: Nationwide, their slogans include serve and protect.  Planned Parenthood: Nationwide, they have ended the lives of over 28,000 tiny Americans in just one month.

Across my home state of North Carolina, local law enforcement accounts for just around 24,000 officers. It’s such a stark contrast between President Donald Trump and Joe Biden. President Trump stands proudly with America’s law enforcement community and is a champion of the pro-life movement. Joe Biden supports effort to strip funding from law enforcement and is unapologetically pro-abortion.

Defunding the police affects us – the people.  Not the elite with their safeguarded sanctuaries and sentries.  We, the people, are most at risk to the raging incompetence of woke politicians.  In a community stripped of its police force, there’s a strong possibility that the opening scenario would have been first read in an obituary.
