The Wake Forest football team will have a new home when it takes the field (or if it takes the field) this fall.
Well, sort of.
The Deacons don’t have a new stadium. They’ll still play in the same place they have since 1968. It’s just that BB&T Field will now be known as Truist Field at Wake Forest. The change was precipitated by a merger between BB&T and Sun Trust Bank to create a new entity called Truist.
Originally known as Groves Stadium, the facility was renamed in September 2007 when Wake Forest signed a 10-year naming rights agreement with BB&T, which is based in Winston-Salem. The deal, which has since been renewed, was part of a larger development program to raise money for stadium renovations and upgrades.
With its seating capacity of just 31,500, Truist Field at Wake Forest is the smallest stadium in the country among Power Five schools.
