RALEIGH — The Mecklenburg County GOP Executive Committee, on Thursday, voted to fill the state Senate seat vacated by now-Congressman Dan Bishop with former state House Representative Rob Bryan.
“Congratulations to Rob Bryan,” stated North Carolina Republican Party Chairman Michael Whatley. “Bryan has a proven conservative record as a state House member and will undoubtedly bring the same effective leadership to the Senate on behalf of his constituents.”
Bryan began his career as a member of the Teach for America corps, teaching a bilingual class of 2nd and 3rd graders in Lynwood, CA. He interned at the Center for Education reform before enrolling in and graduating from Duke Law in 1998. Bryan then went to work for several law firms in Charlotte, landing at Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice, the largest law firm in North Carolina. Bryan is the former chair of the Mecklenburg County GOP and a former two-term state House Representative, and currently serves on the UNC Board of Governors. Bryan resides in Charlotte with Dottie, his wife of 22 years, and their six children.
Bryan announced earlier on Thursday that he was seeking the seat vacated by Bishop. He was supported to Lt. Gov. Dan Forest. “I am proud to endorse my good friend, Rob Bryan, for the State Senate,” said Forest. “I have worked with Rob both at the party level and in the legislature and know his willingness to fight for our values.”
