Hurricanes’ Slavin, in animated form, to appear on NHL Network show

Carolina defenseman featured on "NHL Network Ice Time"

RALEIGH — Jaccob Slavin has been a do-everything defenseman for the Carolina Hurricanes for some time now. The latest addition to his repertoire? Children’s show cartoon.

Slavin will be featured this weekend on “NHL Network Ice Time,” a new show hosted by former NHL player Mike Rupp.

The episode, titled “Defensemen,” features an animated Slavin answering questions from fans such as what his “Welcome to the NHL” moment was, who his favorite player was growing up, and what other sports he played when he was young during a segment called “The Breakaway.”

“I played almost everything I remember being on the swim team, I remember being on the tennis team, golf, basketball, baseball,” Slavin says in the segment while his animated self is shown changing outfits for each sport. “Baseball was probably my main sport other than hockey. I played that up until freshman year of high school.”

The episode will air on NHL Network on Saturday at 9 a.m. and noon, and then again Sunday at 10 a.m.

The 30-minute weekly show also features demos in which players talk about the importance of certain skills or recreate plays they made in NHL games.
