MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Brent Stockstill hit Ty Lee with two scoring strikes in the second quarter to give Middle Tennessee enough cushion to beat Charlotte 21-13 in Conference USA action on Saturday afternoon.
Trailing by 15 in the final quarter, Charlotte rallied to close to 21-13 after Evan Shirreffs hit Mark Quattlebaum on a 23-yard scoring toss with 1:27 remaining in the game. The Blue Raiders recovered the ensuing onside kick and held on for the win.
Lee, who has caught at least one pass in 33 straight games, finished with six catches for 60 yards. Stockstill threw for 111 yards and three scores. Gatlin Casey hauled in the third touchdown toss.
Charlotte took an early lead when Benny LeMay broke for a 57-yard scoring sprint on the 49ers’ first possession.
Middle Tennessee (4-3, 3-1) scored 21 straight points to go ahead 21-6 in the fourth quarter.
LeMay finished with 129 yards rushing for Charlotte (3-4, 2-2).
