North Carolina, NC State, Duke and Wake Forest won’t have to wait long to start playing rivalry games against their ACC neighbors this season.
The Tar Heels and Wolfpack will face off against one another at PNC Arena on Tuesday, Jan. 8 at 9 p.m. A few hours earlier, the Blue Devils will take on the Deacons at Joel Coliseum.
They games will be the second of the conference season for all four teams, according to the schedule announced by the ACC on Wednesday.
The first league game will be played on New Year’s Day, with Notre Dame traveling to Virginia Tech. State will then play at Miami on Thursday, Jan. 3, the fourth straight time it will start conference play on the road, before the schedule kicks into high gear on Saturday, Jan. 5.
Among the highlights are Duke’s first game against former assistant coach and alumnus Jeff Capel — the new coach at Pittsburgh — on Tuesday, Jan. 22 at Pitt; State’s trip to the Smith Center on Tuesday, Feb. 5; UNC’s only meeting with Wake Forest on Saturday, Feb. 16 in Winston-Salem and the Deacons’ annual game at Cameron Indoor Stadium on Tuesday, March 5.
The two UNC-Duke matchups are scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 20 at Cameron and in the traditional regular season finale at the Smith Center on Saturday, March 9.
The Tar Heels have home and away games against Duke, Miami, NC State and Louisville; home games only against Florida State, Notre Dame, Syracuse, Virginia and Virginia Tech; and away games only against Boston College, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Pittsburgh and Wake Forest.
The Wolfpack’s home-and-home opponents are UNC, Wake, Boston College and Pitt, with home games only against Clemson, Georgia Tech, Syracuse, Virginia and Virginia Tech and road only against Duke, Florida State, Louisville, Miami and Notre Dame.
In addition to UNC and Wake, Duke will play Syracuse and Virginia twice, State BC, Clemson, Georgia Tech and Miami at home, and Florida State, Louisville, Notre Dame, Pitt and Virginia Tech on the road.
Wake, meanwhile, has home-and-home dates with Duke, State, Florida State and Miami, to go along with home games only against UNC, BC, Louisville, Pitt and Syracuse. The Deacons’ road only games are at Georgia Tech, Notre Dame, Virginia and Virginia Tech.
After a two-year run in Brooklyn, the 2019 ACC Tournament will return home to North Carolina, at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte on March 12-16.
