Shawn Williams has been one of the few bright spots in an otherwise dark season for the East Carolina basketball team. Monday, the redshirt freshman was honored for his play with his second American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week award.

Williams averaged 18.5 points in two games while shooting a red-hot 9 of 18 from 3-point range.

The 6-foot guard made six treys on his way to a career-high 20 points last Wednesday in a 90-52 home win against South Florida. It was the Pirates’ largest margin of victory in a conference game since 1970. Three days later, Williams had a team-high 15 points in a loss to No. 12 Cincinnati.

For the season, he is averaging 9.3 points per game while leading the team with 35 3-pointers.
